HISTORY AND OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION MANOLO PAZ
Since 2010, the Manolo Paz Foundation plays a very special role among all the remarkable spaces for the Galician art. The Foundation, launched by Manolo Paz and run by Julia García Escudeiro, houses the studio of this sculptor from Cambados as well as the exhibition of his works displayed in a great scenery dominated by the extraordinary combination of art and nature.
Among the main aims of this Foundation are included: preserving, spreading and studying the work of the sculptor Manolo Paz; creating the Manolo Paz Museum of Contemporary Art; organizing temporary and itinerant exhibitions, in addition to symposiums, courses, seminars and conferences about contemporary art; and offering cultural, bibliographic, artistic and documentary funds to researchers in order to set up the heritage of the Foundation.
Currently, the Manolo Paz Foundation is a lively space where is possible to enjoy the legacy of one of the most solid Galician artists of his generation. The representation of works from different periods of his career are a part of the extraordinary private collection of the artist, available to art lovers who enjoy this kind of pieces of art located in the unique setting of the place of Quintáns in Castrelo (Cambados). Particularly, it is a spot where the Umia River flows into the Atlantic Ocean surrounded by a landscape of outstanding beauty.
The space of the Foundation is open to modern and contemporary art in all its aspects and forms. Apart from the permanent exhibition of Manolo Paz’s work, it is also possible to find the dialogue with the works of other artists and disciplines thanks to the cooperation with other cultural agents, institutions and people related to the cultural and scientific field.
One of the last actions carried out by Manolo Paz Foundation was the organization in 2016 of the Manolo Paz Foundation First Symposium where artists and architects, as well as various participants and authorities took part in.
Manolo Paz Foundation is aimed at preserving one of the best artistic works developed in Galicia during the last decades, apart from helping in the documentation and study of this work. It also appears to be one of the fundamental spaces not only for Galician art, but also regarding Spanish and European art. Besides, it has one of the most interesting collections of sculpture located in a natural site and pursues a way where art and land come together in order to show the communion space and the distinctive features already found by the generation of the Renovadores. Last but not least, it also explores all the conceptual, technical and formal possibilities of our time.
